Rainbow(sometimes stylized asRAINBOW; Hangul :레인보우, Katakana :レインボー) is a 7-member South Korean girl group signed to DSP Media . The members are frontwoman Jae Kyung, Go Woo Ri, Cho Hyun Young, Kim Ji Sook, No Eul, Oh Seung Ah, and Jung Yoon Hye. On November 12, 2009, the group released their debut EPGossip Girl; two days later, they made their television debut on the MBC programShow! Music Core.

2009: Formation andGossip Girl[ edit ]

On November 14, 2009, the group debuted onShow! Music Core, performing "Gossip Girl", which was also their first single .

Following the release ofGossip Girl, the group promoted "Not Your Girl", a single from the EP which was written in response to SS501 's song "U R Man".

2010: Image Changes and Rise of Popularity[ edit ]

In early August 2010, DSP Media released a singlular picture as a teaser for the group's follow-up toGossip Girl. The members wore plain white dresses, with eyeshadow colors that matched the rainbow color assigned to each of them. In the second teaser picture, released several days later, the members were displayed wearing two sets of outfits against two different backgrounds. On August 11, 2010, the music video for "A" was released and Rainbow; two days later, Rainbow appeared on KBS 's television series,Music Bank. Subsequent performances were then broadcast onShow! Music Coreand the SBS programInkigayo.

On October 17, 2010, DSP released a selection of concept photos featuring Rainbow's members; these photos were in anticipation of a new single release for " A ". The single was released on October 19, 2010, in addition to the complete set of the concept photos. On October 21, 2010, the first in a series of live performances was broadcast on the Mnet showM! Countdown, and was followed by three more performances. The group then commenced promotion for their next single, " Mach ", until November 14, 2010.

2011:So Nyeo,Sweet Dreamand Japanese Debut[ edit ]

In April 2011, Rainbow released their second EP,SO 女. One song from the EP, "To Me", was released as a single. The season of spring was the overall concept for this release, and the EP's photos featured the band members in white dresses, with a field of flowers in the background.

On May 14, 2012, Sega Toys and Dong Woo Animation both hired Rainbow to perform two songs for the Japanese / Korean Animated seriesZoobles.The two songs, titled "I Love Zoobles" and "Zooblesui Moheom" are both used as the opening (first opening in the Japanese Dub) and ending themes of the series, performed in three languages: Korean, Japanese and English. The songs were uploaded in DSP Media's official YouTube channel.

On June 20, 2011, a 43-second teaser for Rainbow's next single release, "Sweet Dream", was uploaded onto DSP Media's YouTube channel, with the full music video released a day later. The "Sweet Dream" music video was filmed using a motion control camera. The repackaged version of "SO 女" was released on June 22, 2011, and contained alternate tracks such as "Sweet Dream", an acoustic version of "Kiss" (fromGossip Girl), a club version of "To Me", and an instrumental version of "Sweet Dream". On June 23, 2011, Rainbow performed onM! Countdownin support of the repackaged release.[citation needed]

On September 14, 2011, Rainbow released their debut single in the Japanese market, "A", and reached No. 3 on Oricon 's daily single chart, selling 10,141 copies.The single release included a Japanese remake of their debut single "Gossip Girl", as well as an exclusive DVD . Rainbow made their Japanese TV debut on the showSukkiri, performing "A". On December 7, 2011, the group released their second Japanese single, a Japanese version of the song "Mach" ( Japanese :マッハ), and reached No. 9 on Oricon's weekly chart.[citation needed]

2012: Rainbow Pixie,Over the Rainbow, and solo projects[ edit ]

together with details of their debut album,Over the Rainbow, released on March 28, 2012.In April 5, 2012, Rainbow unveiled their second new Japanese song in the Japanese Dub of Zoobles, titled "CANDY GIRLS!". The official Music Video of the song will be shown on September 5, 2012, with the release of the series' first DVD volume.

Jaekyung participated in jTBC 's dramaMonster, which premiered on April 2, 2012.On April 19, 2012, DSP Media stated that HyunYoung had been diagnosed with a vocal cord polyp and underwent surgery for its removal, further stating that, "As her schedule became busier, she had to use her voice more, which is why I think she developed the polyp."Jaekyung also appeared in new SBS programLaw of the Jungle W. Seungah made part of the season 1 of tvN 's showThe Romantic and Idol.

2013-present:Rainbow Syndrome Part 1 & 2[ edit ]

On May 27th Rainbow's comeback teaser was released on YouTube. The main title track for part 2 of Rainbow Syndrome is Sunshine.
